The World Millwork Alliance’s 2019 Convention and Tradeshow was held in Reno, Nevada October 6th – 10th. Each year millwork attendees gather for several days to exhibit new product offerings and discuss industry trends. WoodWare celebrated its 32nd year as an exhibitor at the convention and was excited to see this year’s increase in attendance and all the interesting speakers and exhibits.
Tuesday morning the convention began with the WMA New Member & Millennial Benefit Breakfast. President of WoodWare Systems, Nick Carter, led the assembly as the emcee and shared some encouraging statistics for this year’s conference: 2019 saw a 25% increase in attendance, and a 50% increase in new members. Panel members discussed the personal and professional benefits of belonging to the WMA. WoodWare sales manager, Brad Carter, spoke about the value he places on the relationships he’s made since joining the WMA back in 2009. Building relationships with customers as well as non-customers is one of the highlights of each year’s convention.
The conference opened with the keynote speaker, Jim Abbott, who is well known for overcoming the physical limitation of his right-hand deformity and enjoying a successful MLB career. He spoke about the hurdles he overcame pursuing a career in baseball leading up to his favorite professional achievement: throwing a no-hitter as a New York Yankee in 1993. He demonstrated how he learned as a child to throw and catch with one functioning hand and shared the importance of perseverance and our ability to adapt. He ended his speech with a challenge for the industry urging everyone to move forward, persevere, and adapt.
WoodWare enjoyed having customers and prospects visit the booth to catch up and learn about some of the enhancements that are being worked on. Mike Gardner, head of training and implementation, presented new capabilities in the WoodWare programs. There was plenty of interest in learning more about the instant information WebXT and DocXT offers to WoodWare users. DocXT gives their employees access to all of their documents, drawings, and files related to that order and/or customer at the touch of the DocXT button. WebXT allows their outside sales staff real-time access to order status, accurate pricing and product availability. WebXT provides immediate answers for their customers. It was great seeing the increased attendance in 2019 and look forward to continuing that trend at next year’s convention in Mobile, Alabama in 2020!
